Greenock Solicitors Suspended

Earlier the Scottish Solicitors' Discipline Tribunal reprimanded Duncan Hugh Drummond and David Richard Blair Lyons, partners of Messrs Lyons Laing & Co, Solicitors, Greenock and fined them the sum of £10,000 each. The Tribunal found both solicitors guilty of professional misconduct in respect of breaches of the Law Society's accounts rules, their failure to "timeously stamp and record" See this article in the Law Society's Journal.

According to the Greenock Telegraph (thanks to Absolvitor for the lead) after further inspection a judicial factor was appointed and now the firm’s two partners have been suspended. Clients of Lyons Laing with concerns are told they should contact the judicial factor’s staff on 0141 353 1422 or the Law Society of Scotland on 0131 266 7411.

Im told by a sailing friend that during the Orkney child abuse "scandal" some years ago a number of out of town lawyers were appointed by the crown to represent some of the families involved. One of the lawyers appointed was David Lyons who was part of a crew who took a yacht to the area. Members of the crew were to be seen sporting t-shirts with the bisto-kids on the front. When asked what this was about the response was that the whole exercise was a "gravy-train". Nothing surprises me about the legal profession in Greenock - a number of them have had censure of one kind or another over the years and I personally have taken 2 of them to the SSDT and won.

Well done. It does seem some places have more than there fair share of disciplinary cases.

Well, it’s amazing. The miracle has been done. Hat’s off. Well done, as we know that “hard work always pays off”, after a long struggle with sincere effort it’s done.
