The Divorce Show

The Divorce Show seeks sponsors to target quarreling couples

LONDON - The Divorce Show, possibly the only place to see more rowing couples than Ikea, is seeking sponsors for the inaugural event to take place at the NEC in September.

The organisers of another divorce fair are hoping to attract exhibitors from legal and financial sectors as well as from holiday companies, health, and beauty and fashion brands. The Divorce Show 2009 is billed as the UK's largest national event dedicated to delivering a wealth of information, helpful advice and practical resources to an anticipated audience of 20,000 visitors. The event takes place on September 11th-13th 2009 at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham.

I know a few exhibitors who went to the first divorce fair, the Starting Over Show, said it was interesting, however, I would like to know if there were many people going through divorce in attendance and what they thought of it. Maybe I am old fashioned, but I feel uncomfortable about the high profile marketing of divorce services and targeting quarreling couples at one of the most difficult times in their life. Still, hats off to The Divorce Show for a clever bit of marketing.

Thank you for your comments.

According to the organisers of the Starting Over Show, 46% of visitors were already divorced, 21.6% in the process and 13.5% married.

We view the Divorce Show very much as providing a resource for those questioning their relationship or having made up their mind already. Both Catherine and I have been through divorce with very different experiences and want to help couples restore or retain key relationships, especially when children are involved. We have seen first hand the best and the worst divorce experiences and their wider impact.

Our mission is to equip couples with the tools to limit the damage caused by relationship breakdown. The audience is there - 144,000 divorces a year - hungry for advice.

Hello Fiona. The first UK divorce fair in Brighton March 2009 - the Starting Over Show - was focused mainly on what happens next, rather than just getting through the actual process with some dignity. That's probably why one of our exhibitors - Mark Robinson of Private Wealth Management - who helps people look at their financial future, made over 1,000% return on his investment in exhibiting at the show. The number of visitors focused on looking forwards to the future was also why The Mystic Housewife had queues of people waiting to talk to her (she's also a trained counselor by the way). It is by not treating divorcing couples as victims in need of emergency legal help, but instead focusing on how they can start over and rebuild healthy productive lives, that makes Starting Over Show unique (that's why we don't have private detectives exhibiting). The next events will be in London on 7 March and Brighton 28 March 2010 if you want to check us out for yourself?

Best wishes
